The table was magnificent with over 52k scored on the night!!!
A great first leg by Jase although Jim chased hard throughout. At one point he threatened to move into a good lead until a missed split shot let Jase back in – no 2nd chance given as Jase finished the job
2nd leg saw Kevin start with a good opening break of 2k+ only for Stew to chase him down. When Kev left the door open towards the end of the game Stew pounced! 3rd best player in the team? – Mr Peel would have something to say about that later
3rd leg saw Andy start with a weak 2k and then Dave capitalise with a very assured 4.5k break. Towards the end of the game Dave had a chance to seal the win but let Andy back in for 1 final chance. Under time pressure Andy finally settled and produced a 3k break in about 3mins to secure the leg
Leg 4 was brilliant – Matt started with a 4.6k break and must have felt like he asked a pretty big question to our (3rd / 4th) best player. However, Chas responded with a 2k break to at least put some doubt into Matt’s mind. Towards the end of the leg with time again against the Cons player Chas moved into “Son of God” mode with a superb 3.5k break in the last 4 mins to win the leg. Unlucky Matt who had started brilliantly!!
The last leg saw Damo show why he is such a valued doubles partner – a confident 7.5k break put on the board (no chasing dreams here). Dave couldn’t repeat early play and Damo was back in with a chance of highest away score – unfortunately he ended up just 400 below Lorin’s target! However still a fantastic performance – “man of the match” ?
The jury decided that given the timing of Chas’s game and being against the break meant that he richly deserved the honour
A fantastic night – well played and very unlucky Storm – 2 games nicked at the death so could easily have been a 3-2 loss for the Cons
