An enjoyable first visit to the eerily quiet Foundryman’s for the Bees. The match was off to a cracking start with Matt and Stuart tussling with neither getting the upper hand until Stuart pulled clear with only moments to go. Matt, shaking off some rustiness, managed to level after the bar had dropped and so with the last ball remaining they could not be split. Matt had the first attempt and just missed – Stuart nailed his attempt! a good away point for the visitors.
Adapting to a tricky top has never been one of Lorin’s strengths but, to Iestyn’s misfortune, he settled into the task well and with a couple of 2k+ breaks saw off the leg. 2-0 to the away side.
Al and Ian’s bout was similar to that of the first – a closely fought encounter. Ian managed to nudge ahead and by the time the bar dropped he had a 500 point lead – not that he knew it. As Al finished it off, Ian was the first to ask who had won – it was you Ian, well done!
So that made it 3-0 to the visitors and the pressure was now off. In leg 4, Andy demonstrated the benefits of some regular play, Chris on the other hand showed how six months off can have a nasty impact on your game. Andy played some controlled stuff to take the Bees into an incredible 4-0 lead.
Last up was Al against Sonya. Neither player seemed too keen to trouble the scorer for the first three minutes until Al got the hang of things and strung together some important points. Sonya was never entirely out of it and fought back bravely only for Al to build the lead back up. A consolation point for The Cobblers, who will definitely see better days. A wonderful away win for the Red Lion team.
