I couldn’t be prouder – a truly magnificent team performance!
Jim – Nenecupper – Smith rolled back the years with a sublime performance against Red Lion’s danger man, Norm. A calm, calculated and cultured 7k including a couple of 2/3k breaks gave the Cons the start they were hoping for. A well deserved “player of the match” was added to Smithie’s trophy cabinet.
Damo – flush from an “impressive destruction” of Stephen Coleman in the singles again looked imperious as he yet again knocked in close to 10k on a home table he has fallen in love with this season.
Chas against the break versus Dunc looked another tricky leg but “son of Jesus” had not read the script. When Dunc broke down early on it was 1-way traffic as the ageing rocker proved there’s still another headbang or two left in the locker.
A confident and assured 8k by Andy was enough to despatch Leigh in the first of his 2 legs and set up a potential 5 – 0. A result that the “Cons” thought was beyond them at the start of the night.
In a hard-fought 5thleg battle, Stew looked to be gaining the advantage with a well crafted 2/3k break only to take a pin out and hand the advantage back to Leigh who then had a 2k lead with time running out. Undeterred Stew played a series of classy shots at the bottom of the table to get the break back and then showed real bottle to roll in a 3k break to win the leg by 400 points.
The Cardigan beckon on Monday in what will be a monumental battle to land the league title – we can’t wait!!
