Martin had his best game so far this season with many positives to take, however, it was too soon to be thinking about victory over the County Captain as Stephen easily coasted to victory despite never looking in top form on the challenging table. Leg two was nip and tuck for most of the game with Andy growing in frustration since he hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck so far this season and this game was no exception. Fortunately, a useful 840 break in the last five minutes helped his cause and ensured he got the win he was after against Michelle. Simon looked more comfortable on the table in the third and easily took the lead for his team despite a solid leg from Norm. Lorin levelled the match once more despite an unconvincing performance against Michelle – who was deployed again under the ‘4-man’ rule. So, a final leg decider and the boys from The Red Lion were optimistic that they could secure a famous victory over their lofty opposition. Dunc, who was yet to taste defeat this season, was drawn against Sophie – who was also unbeaten so far. As they say in the world of Boxing – Someone’s ‘O’ had to go! It was not clear to any of the spectators crowding round who it would be that would lose their unbeaten status as neither player managed to build – or at least keep – a lead. Dunc came closest to putting a distance between the two with a break of 1,500+ mid-way through the leg only to plough through a white peg and lose his advantage. It was fated to end on the final ball and Sophie’s nerve held well. The Cardigan go marching on with yet another victory but another creditable performance from the division two side helped the stay in contention for avoiding the dreaded wooden spoon.
