The Red Lion were looking to capitalise on the fact that the league leaders were already enjoying their winter break with a strong result against another division 2 form side in The Cock ‘C’. Keith’s team came out strongly with a narrow victory for Sandy over a poorly Dunc – how he even got through the game is a credit to his tenacity and team spirit. Sadly it wasn’t to be in terms of result for him and the visitors were off and running. Andy levelled things for the hosts as he secured a win over Phil in another close and nervy encounter. Back punched The Cock as Keith easily despatched Norm to put his side on the brink of victory. This was confirmed 20 minutes later when Mark got the better of Martyn. Away victory in the bag for The Cock – they set about making it emphatic – however, Alan never looked settled on the Red Lion table and this allowed Lorin to rescue the point for the home team. The two points for the Lion ensured they would go into Christmas on top of the Division 2 table. With a much tougher second half of the season still to come – it will be interesting to see how long they maintain their challenge.
